Virginia Spouse Abuse Attorney
Protective orders will affect the involved parties in very different ways. If you are the victim of family abuse, you will obtain immediate protection from the person who is harming you. If you are the accused aggressor, you will not be allowed into your home, and you may be unable to see your children. At the law firm of Michael A. Ward, P.C., Attorney at Law, I understand how protective orders can change your life. I represent both victims and the accused, listening to your side of the story and seeking the outcome that is best for you.

Helping Victims of Domestic Violence
If you are in immediate physical danger, do not hesitate to call me for help. Victims of domestic violence have the right to seek the court's assistance to obtain a protective order against a spouse or partner who has been violent. There are different types of protective orders. As your attorney, I can help you decide from the following:
- Emergency protective order: This is granted on an emergency, short-term basis. They last for up to 72 hours and are granted without prior notice to the other party. An emergency protective order can be expanded into a preliminary protective order that lasts up to 14 days without the other party needing to be present at a hearing.
- Permanent protective order: This type is granted after a hearing where both parties have the opportunity to be present. They last for up to two years.
Helping People Accused of Domestic Violence
Sometimes, people will use false domestic violence accusations to gain perceived leverage in divorce, custody or other family law issues. If you need help contesting a petition for a protective order, turn to my law firm. I understand the negative impact a restraining order can have on your life. The other party may be granted exclusive use of the home and vehicle. Additionally, you may lose custody of or access to your children, perhaps being granted only supervised visitation. When so much is on the line, you can count on my experience to see you through.
My law firm can seek the best possible outcome for your domestic violence and protective order issue. Call 703-763-0896 or contact me online to schedule your consultation.
